New for 2018, we are extending our offerings to include guiding by the day, on any date between Monday 29 Jan Saturday 10 Mar.

Join us for a day on the best rivers, streams and lakes of the Southland region of New Zealand this summer. A day of guided fishing starts with an early morning meeting in Mossburn, or at another pre-determined location within the region, with at least eight hours of fishing included on the day.

From there we will whisk you away to one of two dozen rivers, offering a diverse array of fishing opportunities. You may end up throwing big terrestrials on the open rivers of the valley floor to trophy fish; or sneaking up a small meandering creek, well out of the wind, to stalk willow grub feeders with tiny, dry flies.

The options on any given day are many and varied, the only consideration being what you would prefer to do. If you want to walk into a canyon off the beaten track. We can do that. Prefer a more sedate experience with fish rising to small mayflies all day long? Easy as.

We have been guiding full-time for 24 years, with eighteen consecutive seasons in New Zealand. So you could say that we know the area well. But what we really excel at, is in looking after people.

All of our guides are full-time professionals who have fished and worked extensively in the fly fishing industry. They are extremely personable and worldly, making them good companions both on the road and the river.

They will also go the extra yard, treating a day on the water as if they were the ones fishing, and as if they only had the one day to fish! This means that they will work tirelessly to put you onto fish, sometimes stopping at several locations throughout the day, often working overtime to ensure you have a great day out.

We don’t fish ‘banker’s hours’ when we are out fishing ourselves; and we don’t expect you to either. Many guides work on the presumption that you will be on the water about 9.00am and back at the lodge for pre-dinner drinks by 5.30pm.

We are not most guides, and we don’t do Apéritifs! A single guided day is about the fishing. And we’re sorry. But you will be late back for drinks.

Our guides are first aid qualified, Working with Children certified, and are members of our Professional Guide’s Association. They are also Swiftwater Rescue trained, and are experienced drift boat operators.

Also provided on the day is a healthy lunch of sandwiches, fruit and sweets, as well as plenty of cold water. All flies are included in the price, and we can provide top quality SAGE/WATERWORKS gear if needed. Just let us know when inquiring.
